Posting from Google Docs 18:26 on Thursday

Testing the Google Docs blog integration. A new home for my drafts?

It works! And I can quite easily update the post by editing the document and republishing it.

But what’s the use? I’ve never quite gotten why should anyone have another program or online publishing platform for the blog than the original. Explain me like I’m a five-year-old and you’re the user interface über-geek ;)

I don’t think there’s much use in your and my scenario, unless you count the possibility of updating the drafts offline with the help of Google Gears. But for some client cases, having a more “Word-like” environment for updating a website is a huge plus.

What troubles me with Google Docs is that you don’t have a button for “Send this forward thru Gmail”. The integration could be better. And why don’t we have a similar button in Gmail next to the “Attach a file” where says “Attach from G-Docs”.

Or do we have these and I’m just a poor user. In the other hand, if I feel to be a poor user, isn’t that a fault of the designer. :)

You can email documents as attachments by clicking the blue Share button. A better idea though is to, well, share the documents. You can decide whether the recipient is only allowed to view, or also to edit a shared document. If you allow editing, you can collaborate on documents simultaneously! We use it all the time: we will open the same document on our screens, and we can both make edits while discussing the contents.
