Only in Leopard 08:01 on Tuesday

Apple Leopard news from WWDC, in short form:

  • REFLECTIVE DOCK!!1 How did we ever survive without this? Well, at least we know how these candies work on the store showroom floor.
  • Stacks. Finally! We only waited for 12 years or something. :)
  • Finder works like iTunes, with CoverFlow through documents. The new UI is possibly more useful than the eye-candy-sweetness induced doubt lets you believe.
  • QuickLook. Well, it’s about time.
  • Time Machine — I just can’t get past the interface. Nothing says “Steve” like the starfield beneath.
  • Spaces. I’ve tried many of the multi-desktop solutions and none of them have let me both 1) view the same window in multiple spaces, and 2) view two separate windows of the same app in two separate spaces. We’ll see.
  • Mail makes it easier to piss off your old school pine friends with fancy HTML messages. RSS in Mail is still a good idea.
  • iChat lets you show pictures. Cool, potentially even useful.

That’s it folks. Happy waiting.

I wrote about virtual desktops yesterday and mentioned that Virtue Desktops manages the second point. Not sure about the first one, though, as I already trashed the app.

I’m afraid the new Dock looks even worse when kept on the side of the screen. Well, at least Safari’s resizeable text areas are, like, the best thing ever (albeit already available as plugins for other browsers).
