Staying on task 07:26 on Friday
Do you have any tips for staying on task? When it comes to work, I think I’m pretty disciplined and well organized. But when I’m working on projects and get stuck, I too often end up using disproportionate amounts of time trying to solve something that just doesn’t matter. Or matters very little.
The difficulty is that when a problem arises, it is impossible to know when and how the problem will be solved. The solution could be around the corner and the problem could be solved in the next three minutes. Or it might take the next three hours. Or three days.
So how do you know when should you give up, realign your efforts and get back to the bigger task at hand? And if the problem actually does matter, when should you reassess the design of the system?
