Enterprise blogging vs. reality TV 16:16 on Wednesday

A slightly (but only slightly) tongue-in-cheek idea occurred to me the other day: enterprise blogging is the textual cousin of reality TV. Not the unreality shows where people are dropped in the middle of wilderness all alone (with a camera crew of 20), but shows that take the viewer behind the scenes. Like BBC’s Airport, for example.

Apart from the medium, what’s the difference between airport workers explaining their days at work and a sheet metal company writing about the hazards of heavy machinery?

Both have found their audience and proved to be interesting to a lot of people. I believe for much the same reason: a peek inside the bagel.
