Nokia N90: Early adopter catches the early bug – Day 2, part 1 13:42 on Sunday

Woah. I managed the first day with my Nokia N90 without taking it back for a refund. Mad props. See earlier parts of my N90 review for more philosophizing.

Series 60 has come a long way from the first versions. Whatever my enthusiastic friends say though, S60 is not solid. With all the flickering, few hundred milliseconds of empty screens while loading, it looks like it’s breaking down. Maybe Nokia should switch entirely to Flash Lite based interfaces and leave the screen drawing part to Macromedia. Three months ago I believed I wouldn’t notice the jitter after using the phone for a few days. I was wrong. I still wonder why do I waste my time staring at the flickering screen, waiting for a received text message to load.

There’s only one first impression. That’s why OS X has the wobbly Dock. The first impression for the Dock is “I want that!” whereas with N90 it is “did I break it?”.

On a positive note, I got my first call, and the sound quality is excellent! Soft and pleasant.

I guess that depends on who’s calling.

Lot of bugs that I have encountered in my new N90. 1) At times if there is a call you cannot get to hear the call tunes. 2) The outer display unit sometimes go blank. 3) You cannot redial a number from the call list sometimes.

To fix all the above you need to reboot. That sucks. To add to the agony, it is difficult to use it without vibrator.
