Population Register Centre sells your information 11:51 on Tuesday

I heard today that the Population Register Centre of Finland, which maintains information on Finnish population, sells the information for direct marketing. This is interesting considering that email spamming for instance is strictly prohibited by law to so called opt-in marketing. In other words, all marketing not subscribed to by the recipient is illegal.

There is an opt-out possibility with Population Register Centre though. Anyone can call the Centre at (09) 229 161 and ask to forbid the disclosure of their personal information. Alternatively you can fill out a form and mail it to the Centre.
